Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has called on leaders in the United Alternative Government to set aside personal ambitions and focus on presenting a united front ahead of the 2027 General Election.
He clarified that his recent remarks were not an attack on Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna but a plea for coalition discipline.
“My message is simple, every leader in the United Alternative Government must put aside personal pride and remember that the 2027 election is bigger than any individual. It is about millions of Kenyans who believe President Ruto has failed to meet their expectations and are looking for a credible alternative,” Salasya said in a statement posted on his social media.
The MP said he fully supports Sifuna’s right to chart his own political path, including forming a political party or holding independent meetings, but cautioned against parallel activities under different opposition banners running at the same time.
“We must avoid parallel meetings under different opposition banners such as Linda Mwananchi and the United Alternative Government. Competing activities only confuse Kenyans when what they expect from us is unity, coordination, and a shared vision,” he said.
Salasya also dismissed the ongoing debate over who should be the dominant political figure in Western Kenya as a distraction, saying the conversation about whether it is Eugene Wamalwa, Edwin Sifuna, George Natembeya, or any other leader can wait.
“Kenya’s future is more important than regional political supremacy,” he said, adding that he is ready to support any Luhya leader who earns the coalition’s presidential ticket.
On the question of a flagbearer, Salasya said he will support whoever is democratically chosen by the united opposition, naming a broad list of possible candidates including Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Fred Matiang’i, Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa, Edwin Sifuna, David Maraga, and George Natembeya.
“Time will determine the flagbearer. For now, our responsibility is to unite, organize, and give Kenyans a strong, credible, and winning alternative,” he said.
Salasya warned against anyone who might sacrifice Kenya’s 2027 moment for personal positioning ahead of 2032, insisting that he will be hated and forgotten forever.
“Anyone who will crucify Kenyans on 2027 will be hated and forgotten forever. The mission is not about who leads. The mission is about saving Kenya,” Salasya said.
