Drama as Bible-wielding man dodges security, hugs President Ruto in Ganze

A man in Ganze, Kilifi County, on Sunday, May 24 morning caused a stir after he managed to dodge security and join President William Ruto on stage.

The young man, carrying a bible, managed to dodge President Ruto’s security and joined him on the dais as he was making his address during the thanksgiving ceremony of Youth Principal Secretary Fikirini Jacobs.

He was able to briefly hug the President and he attempted to whisper some words to him before he was hurriedly whisked away.

President Ruto directed his security not to harrass the man as he had no bad intention.

“Huyo kijana hana shida… nafikiri amejifunza kutoka kwa Fikirini Jacobs kwamba nafasi ikipatikana usiwache ipotee,” President Ruto said amid laughters from the crowd.

President Ruto also promised to find time and meet the man personally.

In the end, the event went ahead successfully, with President Ruto highlighting a raft of developmental projects his government has rolled out in Kilifi and the entire Coastal region.

He also promised to do more to alleviate a region that has been neglected by previous administrations. These include but not limited to; KSh2.2 billion to upgrade various roads within Kilifi into bitumen standards, KSh18 billion for affordable housing project, and intensifying rural electrification programme.

This is not the first time Kenyans are witnessing a lapse in President Ruto’s security detail. In February 2026 during a public tour of Wajir County, a man also attempted to run towards President Ruto but was intercepted by security officers before reaching him.

In May 2025, President Ruto ordered his security to release a man that had been subdued after reportedly hurling a shoe at the Head of State during a rally in Kehancha, Migori County.
