Education Ministry rejects 68,000 Grade 10 senior school placement appeals

The Ministry of Education has announced that learners who are satisfied with their senior school placements can access their admission letters starting December 28, 2025. For those dissatisfied, a second opportunity to revise their choices will be available in the first week of January.

The seven day window for revising school and pathway selections is ending, with over 343,000 learners having responded.

Of the 183,000 processed applications, 116,000 were approved, while 66,000 were declined, mostly due to requests for Category One schools (formerly national schools). There are 262 such schools nationwide.

PS Julius Bitok urged Kenyans to consider all schools, noting that competency-based education aims to make all schools attractive.

“Under competency-based education, we’re investing across the country so all schools can attract learners equally,” he said.

The revision process aimed to help learners re-evaluate pathway choices based on KJSEA performance.

Most requests focused on school choices rather than pathways. Another revision opportunity is likely in January for unsuccessful applicants.

The process addresses cases where learners feel misplaced in schools or pathways. Learners can access admission letters next week, after the first phase ends.
