Construction of the long-awaited Enziu River Bridge in Kitui County is set to be completed within the next 90 days, according to the contractor undertaking the project.
KIU Contractors, which is in charge of the construction, has assured residents and leaders who inspected the project that the bridge will soon be completed following the arrival of the bridge beams two days ago.
The project had stalled for some time, leaving residents who rely on the bridge to connect Nguni and Nuu in Mwingi Central facing challenges.
The Enziu River Bridge gained national attention in December 2021 after a bus plunged into the river, killing more than 30 people in one of the country’s deadliest road accidents.
Construction of the bridge commenced following the tragedy but later stalled, raising concerns among residents over the prolonged delay.
The contractor has now promised to complete the project within 90 days, a move expected to improve connectivity and enhance road safety for residents and motorists using the route.
