Security agencies have been challenged to intensify efforts to protect Kenyans amid growing concerns over rising cases of insecurity, attacks, and killings across the country.
Speaking in Matungu during the funeral service of Hanington Were, leaders led by Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, DAP-K Party Leader Eugene Wamalwa and Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga urged the Ministry of Interior to strengthen security measures and ensure the safety of all citizens.
The leaders expressed concern over the increasing cases of violent attacks and killings, saying the government must take decisive action to curb crime and restore public confidence in the country’s security apparatus.
They were speaking during the burial of Hanington Were, the son of former Matungu MP David Were.
Hanington was killed by unknown assailants in Kisumu last month under circumstances that are still under investigation.
The leaders called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to expedite investigations into the murder and ensure that those responsible are identified, arrested, and prosecuted.
They noted that justice for Hanington and other victims of violent crimes is crucial in strengthening public trust in the country’s security institutions and deterring future criminal acts.
