Former Nairobi Provincial Commissioner Davis Nathan Chelogoi has been sentenced to three years in prison following his conviction in a Sh1.3 billion land fraud case involving a 7.39-hectare parcel in Lower Kabete, Nairobi.
Chelogoi was found guilty on five of the six counts brought against him in connection with the disputed property.
The sentence was handed down by Magistrate Dolphina Alego, who ordered that the three-year prison terms run concurrently. This means the former administrator will serve a total of three years behind bars.
The case revolves around alleged fraudulent dealings involving the high-value parcel of land in Lower Kabete, which is estimated to be worth Sh1.3 billion.
Prosecutors accused Chelogoi of involvement in the fraudulent acquisition and subsequent disposal of the property, sparking a lengthy legal battle over its ownership.
Chelogoi, who served as Nairobi Provincial Commissioner during the administration of former President Daniel arap Moi, has been at the centre of the protracted land dispute for several years.
In delivering the sentence, the court opted for a custodial term without imposing a fine as an alternative punishment.
The conviction and sentencing mark a significant development in the long-running legal battle over the disputed Lower Kabete property.
