Police in Bondo, Siaya County, have launched investigations into the killing of a General Service Unit (GSU) officer who was stabbed at his home in Barchando village on Sunday August 9, 2026 at night.
Detective Corporal Henry Okello was attacked by masked assailants while sleeping beside his wife, according to police. The attackers fled after stabbing him. No property was reported stolen from the house.
Bondo Sub-County Police Commander Peter Leparsare confirmed the incident, saying officers were alerted by village elder Wilfred Otieno and arrived at the scene early Monday morning.
Okello, who was off duty, had travelled to Barchando to attend the burial of a relative. He was scheduled to return to Nairobi on Monday to resume his duties at the GSU headquarters.
Police said preliminary investigations suggested that the attack may have been targeted, although the motive had not been established by the time of publication.
Okello had also been involved in efforts to trace his 72-year-old father, Edwin Ojudi Aliwa, a retired teacher who disappeared on April 23, 2026. Aliwa was reportedly picked up from his home in Got Nyapong’ village, North Sakwa Location, by people who claimed they were looking for building materials.
His whereabouts remain unknown, and police have not confirmed whether his disappearance was connected to Okello’s killing.
“We have launched a full-scale investigation into this murder,” Leparsare said.
The officer’s body was taken to the Bondo Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted. Police are continuing to search for suspects and establish the circumstances surrounding the attack.
