Mataan women have endorsed Yahya Mohamed Dahiye as their preferred candidate for the Wajir gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election. The endorsement was made during a gathering at Suray Stage in Wajir, attended by a large number of women, youth and elders.

The women said they were ready to take a more active role in shaping the county’s political future, insisting that women must be at the centre of decision-making. Speaking at the event, Mama Deka Ismail said it was time for women to move beyond supporting political decisions made by others and take the lead in determining the leadership they want.

“We have reached a point where women must make their own political decisions. We have the numbers, the voice and the ability to determine the future of our county,” said Mama Deka Ismail.

Yahya Dahiye welcomed the endorsement, saying the support from Mataan women was a sign of confidence in his leadership agenda. He pledged to champion inclusive leadership and ensure women and young people have a meaningful role in the development and governance of Wajir.

“This endorsement is a great responsibility and a call to serve. I will continue engaging our communities, listening to their priorities and building a leadership that brings women, youth and elders together for the progress of Wajir,” said Yahya Dahiye.
