Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi has called on religious leaders and Kenyans across all denominations to pray for peace, national unity and stability as the country prepares for the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during church services in Busia County, Mudavadi urged the Church to take an active role in promoting peaceful coexistence and encouraging responsible political participation.
“Peace is key to our national stability and development. Without peace, our country risks facing challenges that bring suffering to our people,” he said.
Mudavadi expressed confidence that President William Ruto would secure re-election in the 2027 General Election through a free and fair democratic process, urging residents of Western Kenya to support the President’s leadership and development agenda.
“President William Ruto will win the 2027 General Election, and we must rally behind his leadership to ensure continuity. This continuity will enable us to consolidate the development gains already made and accelerate the transformation of Western Kenya through improved infrastructure, expanded economic opportunities and stronger trade links with Uganda and the wider East African region,” Mudavadi said.
He called on the region to rally behind the Government, saying continued political support would provide an opportunity to advance development programmes and accelerate the transformation of Western Kenya.
The Prime Cabinet Secretary emphasised that peace must remain paramount throughout the electoral period, urging religious institutions to pray for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as it prepares to discharge its constitutional mandate.
He called on Kenyans to support a credible electoral process and reject violence, intolerance and political divisions.
The Prime Cabinet Secretary further raised concern over the threat of Ebola, noting that Busia’s strategic position along the Kenya-Uganda border and the continuous movement of people across the border require heightened vigilance.
“Busia is a strategic border county, and we must remain at the forefront of safeguarding our country against threats such as Ebola. We all have a responsibility to protect Kenya,” he said.
He urged residents and relevant authorities to remain alert and support public health surveillance measures to prevent the disease from entering the country.
On regional development, the Prime Cabinet Secretary called for accelerated investment in infrastructure across Western Kenya to strengthen connectivity, expand economic opportunities and facilitate cross-border trade with Uganda and the wider East African Community.
He noted that improved road networks and supporting infrastructure would enhance the movement of goods and people, open up markets for local producers and position Western Kenya as a strategic gateway to regional trade.
Mudavadi reiterated that peace, political stability and development are mutually reinforcing, urging residents to safeguard national unity while supporting initiatives aimed at transforming the region and strengthening Kenya’s economic integration with its neighbours.
