Marigat Level 4 Hospital condemned after developing huge cracks

A major healthcare investment in Baringo South is now raising serious safety concerns after the newly constructed Marigat Sub-County Level Four Hospital developed huge cracks, prompting its condemnation.

The facility, which was expected to transform healthcare delivery for residents of Tiaty, Mochongoi, Marigat and the wider Baringo South region, is now facing questions over its structural integrity and the quality of construction.

For residents of Marigat and the surrounding areas, the newly constructed Level Four Hospital was more than just another government development project. It was a long-awaited investment that promised to bring quality healthcare services closer to the people.

But barely after its construction, the facility is now at the centre of controversy, following the emergence of huge cracks on its walls, raising questions about the quality of workmanship and the safety of the building.

A spot check at the facility paints a worrying picture.

Visible cracks can be seen on sections of the administration block, with some offices appearing deserted, raising concerns about the structural condition of the building.

What was meant to be a modern healthcare facility, serving thousands of residents across Baringo South and neighbouring Tiaty, is now facing an uncertain future.

For the local community, the development is a major disappointment.

Residents had pinned their hopes on the hospital to ease the burden of travelling long distances in search of medical services, with some patients previously forced to seek specialised treatment at Kabarnet Referral Hospital.

The facility was expected to reduce pressure on existing health centres, improve access to emergency services and provide a convenient alternative for families seeking medical attention.

But with the hospital now condemned following concerns over its structural integrity, those expectations have been thrown into doubt.

For expectant mothers, children, elderly residents and patients requiring emergency attention, the situation presents another challenge in accessing healthcare services closer to home.

The biggest concern now is how a newly constructed public facility, which was expected to serve the community for decades, could develop such visible structural defects.

Questions are also emerging over the construction process, the standards applied, the supervision of the project and whether the contractor adhered to the required building specifications.

Residents want those responsible for the project to explain what went wrong and whether public resources were put to good use.

They are also calling for an independent structural assessment to establish the extent of the damage and determine whether the facility can be safely rehabilitated or requires further intervention.

For now, the fate of the Marigat Level Four Hospital remains uncertain, as residents continue to grapple with the reality of a healthcare facility that promised hope but has instead become a subject of concern.
