It was a day filled with joy, warmth, and generosity as members of Detail 79 visited Wings of a Dove Children’s Home in Ruai for a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable children and reaffirming the spirit of giving back to society.

The initiative brought together approximately 400 members of the Detail 79 welfare group, whose motto, “Together We Rise, Together We Give,” reflects their commitment to uplifting others through acts of kindness, compassion, and solidarity.

In his remarks, Mr. Isaac Tenai,SP, Chairperson of Detail 79, observed that giving is not necessarily about having plenty, but about having the heart to share. He expressed gratitude to members for their generosity and for making the occasion memorable.

He noted that the group, which reconnected in 2017 after a period of limited engagement, has sustained its commitment to supporting vulnerable members of society. He further observed that the visit marked the group’s seventh CSR initiative since 2017 and reaffirmed its belief that service to the nation does not end with wearing the uniform.

Mr. Tenai encouraged the children to remain focused, work hard, and pursue their dreams, assuring them that their circumstances should never limit their aspirations. He emphasised that, beyond material support, the children also need the presence, encouragement, and companionship of those who care about their welfare.

In her remarks, Madam Ruth Kamau, Founding Director of Wings of a Dove Community Centre, recounted the humble beginnings of the institution in 2004 as a daycare facility in Dandora. She explained that, while working in the informal settlement, she encountered numerous vulnerable children who had been abandoned by their parents and subsequently took it upon herself to provide them with care and protection.

In December 2007, she relocated the initiative to Ruai, where it gradually developed into a children’s home. The institution was officially registered in 2014 and has since remained committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for children in need.

The National Police Service commends Detail 79 for its continued commitment to community service and social responsibility. Through such initiatives, the Service reaffirms that policing extends beyond law enforcement to include compassion, solidarity, and meaningful engagement with communities.
