Police officers in Pangani, Nairobi County, on Saturday, November 7 evening intervened swiftly to bring to a halt a robbery in progress along Juja Road.

The officers from Pangani Police Station were on their routine patrol when they spotted two men armed with knives robbing a woman of her belongings.

The officers immediately moved in to stop the attack, forcing the suspects to abandon the robbery and flee towards Kosovo Slums.

Police reports indicate that the officers gave chase and caught up with the suspects shortly afterwards.

“As they moved to apprehend them, one of the men drew a knife and turned on an officer in an attempt to stab him. Faced with an imminent threat to his life, the officer discharged his firearm, fatally injuring the suspect,” the National Police Service (NPS) says.

Upon searching, the officers recovered a mini pistol, a knife, and a mobile phone that had been stolen from the woman.

“The National Police Service will sustain its efforts to prevent and disrupt criminal activities through targeted operations, patrols, and prompt responses to emerging threats.”

The NPS is also encouraging members of the public to remain vigilant, especially as the year draws to a close, when crime patterns have consistently shown robbery, stealing, and other opportunistic offences heighten.

“Members of the public are urged to continue cooperating with the police by sharing information on any suspicious activities at the nearest police station or through the emergency toll-free numbers: 911 or 999; the #FichuaKwaDCI hotline on 0800 722 203; or via WhatsApp on 0709 570 000.”
