Motorcyclist killed in police pursuit as 162 bales of bhang recovered in Webuye

Detectives from the National Anti-Narcotics Investigations Bureau (NANIB) Bungoma, working with DCI Webuye West, have seized 170.8 kilograms of cannabis after a chase along the Malaba-Webuye road ended in a fatal crash.

Acting on credible intelligence, detectives laid an ambush targeting a white Mazda CX-5, registration number KDY 338F, which was suspected to be ferrying narcotics.

When the vehicle appeared, the driver spotted the detectives and sped off, triggering a chase.

The Mazda then collided with a red TVS motorcycle, registration number KMFV 109F.

The rider, Muzungu Munialo, sustained fatal injuries, while the Mazda’s driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.

After traffic officers processed the accident scene, detectives searched the Mazda and found narcotics inside.

The vehicle was towed to the police station for a thorough examination, where officers recovered 162 bales of cannabis wrapped in yellow cellotape, with an estimated street value of Ksh 5,124,000.

A second number plate, registration number KF2 8588, was also found on the back seat, suspected to have been intended to conceal the vehicle’s identity.

The vehicle and the seized narcotics have been handed over to NANIB Bungoma for further investigations.

The DCI extended its condolences to Munialo’s family, friends and relatives.

It said it remains determined to track down the fleeing driver and to unravel the wider network behind the suspected trafficking operation.
