A Kenyan man living in the United States (U.S) is appealing for help after a series of unfortunate events in his life left him homeless.
John Njoroge has been living inside his car outside a Walmart parking lot in Atlanta, Georgia, for a while, while nursing a horrific injury to his right leg.
But what happened?
In a video shared by a Kenyan living in the U.S, Karanja Dan KD, he bumped into Njoroge when a group of security personnel from Walmart were confronting him, evicting him from the parking lot.
Karanja tried to help Njoroge, and that is when he opened up to him. According to Njoroge, he and his wife relocated from Kenya to chase the American dream, like many other Kenyans.
However, the couple encountered some problems in their marriage while in the U.S, problems that prompted the wife to file charges against him.
As a result of the charges, Njoroge was arrested and thrown into jail. But all this while, Njoroge’s injury, which he sustained shortly before leaving Kenya, was deteriorating.
After serving jail time, Njoroge could not risk going into the four-bedroom house he was sharing with his wife, for fear of compounding their issues and possible deportation.
“He has tried to take on several jobs, like delivery, but the nature of his injury makes it impossible to work for long hours, so he ends up losing the job,” Karanja reported.
Since he could not earn a salary, he fell behind on his rent and was eventually kicked out of a one-bedroom house he had rented, ending up living on the streets.
“We need to find a solution before we lose him then start contributing towards his funeral or repatriation,” Karanja pleaded with Kenyans in the U.S to come to Njoroge’s aid, fearing for the worse.
Njoroge’s woes
In a subsequent video shared by Karanja, Njoroge demonstrates how he has been surviving with his injured leg, which has almost rendered him immobile.
The injury saw seven nerves in Njoroge’s leg damaged, forcing doctors to operate on him to replace them. The said leg is so swollen and painful that he relies on a brace attached to his show to support it.
Although doctors say his leg has a chance of healing, his full recovery will need physio-therapy and constant medication.
“I currently use gabapentin for the nerve pain and diclofenac as an anti-inlammatory,” Njoroge said in the video.
He added: “There is a friend who brought me a one-month supply of the drugs, but they are about to deplete.
