Kenya’s Emily Ngii wins Gold in the 20 km racewalk at the African Games

Race walker Emily Ngii has won Kenya her first Gold medal at the ongoing African Games in Accra Ghana.

Ngii came in first, timing 1:37:34 in the 20 Kilometer Race. This is her second win at the African Games following her great performance in the last edition staged in Rabat, Morocco where she clocked an African record of 1:34:41.

Ethiopia’s Masire Sintayehu came in second after clocking 1:38:07 , in the third place came in Algerian Souad Azzi in a time of 1:39:43.

Meanwhile, her Compatriot, African 20km race walk champion Samuel Gathimba bagged silver after finishing second in 1:28:06 behind Ethiopia’s Wakuma Misgana walk away with gold after clocking 1:28:05.

Gathimba is the immediate former African Games champion, having clocked 1:22:48 to win the title the last edition in Rabat, Morocco.

Algeria’s Benhammouda Ismail came in third in the men’s 20km in a time of 1:31:12 to bag bronze.

Kenya’s medal tally at the quadrennial event stands at 16 -one gold, four silver and 11 bronze.
