Kisii: Suspect who turned violent, stabbed police officer four times shot dead

A suspect was on Saturday, August 19 afternoon shot dead after he resisted arrest in Nyatoima area, Kisii South Sub-County.

According to a report filed by Benson Ouru Kimunche – a Nyumba Kumi official – at Kerina Police Station, the suspect being pursued locked himself inside his house, prompting police officers to forcefully gain entry.

But as police constables, Cheruiyot Kibet and James Moranga, were making the arrest, the suspect – Fairbun Macharia – turned violent.

Upon the Police Constable Cheruiyot handcuffing one hand of [of the suspect] he turned violent and attacked the officer with a kitchen knife stabbing him on the face four times, occasioning serious injuries,” the police report reads in part.

The police report adds: “This prompted PC Cheruiyot to fire three bullets from his AK47 rifle.” He died on arrival at the hospital.

The injured police officer was rushed to Iyabe Sub-County Hospital where he was stitched and referred to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH) for a head scan since blood was oozing from his ears and nose.

The body of the 21-year-old suspect was moved to KTRH mortuary.
