Mathe wa Ngara denied bail, Teresia Wanjiru released on KSh50k cash bail

KENYANews

The infamous Mathe wa Ngara (real name Nancy Kigunzu) has been denied bail in a case involving trafficking of narcotics worth KSh13.4 million.

Kigunzu appeared before Magistrate Njeri Thuku at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Law Courts on Thursday morning.

In her ruling, Magistrate Thuku said granting her bail was not in the interest of justice.

On the other hand, her co-accused Teresia Wanjiru was granted KSh50,000 cash bail on condition that she leaves behind contacts of two people.

They will be required at JKIA Law Courts to file a social report about her.

The judge ordered that she receive treatment and was brought back to court on Wednesday where journalists and family were locked out as the minor was also arraigned.

Kigunzu and co-accused denied charges of trafficking marijuana.

Mathe wa Ngara was arrested on Monday, August 21 and detained at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters along Kiambu Road.

This followed uproar from the public that DCI officers had arrested the ‘wrong’ mathe wa Ngara.

Teresia Wanjiru, who was mistaken for Mathe wa Ngara was apprehended in Karuirwa Slums in Ngara where the sleuths raided a house and found stacks of bhang and KSh13.4 million stashed in gunny bags.
