Presidential aspirant Fred Matiang’i has responded after a photo of him with Kisii Governor Simba Arati and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) sparked online speculation.
In a statement on his social media, Matiang’i said the meeting was entirely coincidental and not the planned engagement some accounts were suggesting.
“After checking in at the Kenya Airways desk at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, I bumped into Kisii Governor Hon. Simba Arati and Suna East MP Hon. Junet Mohamed, who had also checked in and were travelling to Kisumu. It was a chance encounter as each of us proceeded to board our flight,” he said.
He dismissed claims that had been circulating online suggesting the three had met the previous night or had planned the engagement.
“Contrary to false claims circulating online, this was neither a meeting held last night nor a planned engagement. It was simply a chance encounter between leaders at the airport,” Matiang’i said.
He added that he had travelled to Kisumu to join Siaya Governor James Orengo, People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua, and congregants for a church service at Apondo SDA Church in Ahero.
“I then proceeded to Kisumu to join Siaya Governor Hon. James Orengo, People’s Liberation Party Leader Hon. Martha Karua, and the faithful for a church service at Apondo SDA Church in Ahero,” he concluded.
