Senior Sergeant (S/Sgt) Joseph Maigua has been wearing all these hats with valour and honour for over three decades.
His white turban, a symbol of purity and dedication to God, reflects a faith that has remained central to his life and service.
“My faith reminds me to serve with humility, honesty and compassion. Every day I wear this uniform, I remember that I am accountable both to God and to the people I serve,” reflects a man his colleagues describe as calm, approachable and deeply committed to mentoring younger officers.
His wealth of experience, coupled with his humility, has earned him the respect of both fellow officers and members of the public.
But who exactly is S/Sgt Joseph Maigua?
S/Sgt) Maigua is the Officer Commanding Mwireri Police Post, a constituent post under Umande Police Station in Laikipia East Sub-County, Laikipia County.
It is at this quiet facility that S/Sgt Maigua begins each day with the same sense of purpose that has guided him for over three decades. For him, policing is more than a profession—it is a calling rooted in service, integrity and faith.
Born and raised in Nyeri County, S/Sgt Maigua joined the National Police Service on 30 August 1989. He underwent his basic recruit training at the National Police College, Embakasi ‘A’ Campus, formerly the Administration Police Training College (APTC), before embarking on a journey that would span 37 years of dedicated public service.
His first deployment took him to Wajir County in the North Eastern Region in 1990, where he served for eight years under challenging conditions. He would later serve in Laikipia, Nandi and several other parts of the country, steadily building a reputation as a dependable and disciplined officer committed to safeguarding lives and property.
His experience has seen him handle a wide range of cases, including theft, assault and defilement, while fostering strong partnerships with the local community through community policing initiatives.
“The greatest reward in this profession is seeing people live peacefully and knowing that you have played a part in keeping them safe,” says S/Sgt Maigua.
Throughout his career, he has risen from the rank of Police Constable to Senior Sergeant—a journey defined by resilience, discipline, professionalism and an unwavering commitment to duty. Remarkably, he has maintained an exemplary service record throughout his career.
As he marks 37 years of distinguished service, S/Sgt Maigua continues to demonstrate that true leadership is measured not only by rank but also by consistency, integrity and selfless service to others.
The National Police Service is celebrating him with proud for his remarkable dedication, resilience and professionalism.
