Muslim faithful in Isiolo County joined millions of others across the world in marking Eid Al-Adha celebrations with joint prayers held at Wabera Primary School grounds.
The celebrations come at a time of rising political temperatures in the country, with Muslim leaders using the occasion to urge Kenyans to maintain peace and unity ahead of the next general election.
The leaders also called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to strengthen public confidence in the electoral process following recent political claims that elections could be rigged.
Speaking during the celebrations, Osman Sharriff said politicians alleging that elections will be stolen should be summoned by the IEBC to substantiate their claims.
Sharriff further noted that counties with Muslim majorities have continued to face corruption challenges, which he said have hindered development and undermined the gains of devolution.
Former Isiolo Deputy Governor Abdi Isa assured residents that the current electoral systems have addressed loopholes that were previously exploited, making it difficult for elections to be manipulated. He also challenged elected leaders to prioritize service delivery to wananchi.
Another leader, Hassan Diba, urged Muslim faithful to uphold peaceful coexistence and support their neighbours, saying Islam teaches unity, compassion, and harmony among communities.
Abdikadir Hassan called on all Muslim during the electioneering year to observe peace and shun those encouraging and promoting hatred and sentiment of division.
