Mwalimu Daniel Oluoch Wandayi, a veteran educator, has died after short illness.
The family, in a funeral announcement, describes Mwalimu Daniel as a dedicated and accomplished educator who devoted over three decades to shaping young minds.
“A dedicated and accomplished educator, he devoted over three decades to shaping young minds, serving in several schools across Nyanza before retiring in 2005,” the funeral announcement reads.
Mwalimu Daniel was the first-born son of the late Mzee Elly Wandayi Josiah and the late Mama Florence Apiyo Wandayi.
He was a “loving” husband of Herine Awuor Oluoch, and a devoted father of Gilbert Eli Wandayi, the late Josiah Marakalu, Merab Oluoch, Leovine Oluoch, Hellen Achieng, and the late Albania Masawa.
Mwalimu was a proud grandfather of 11 and a cherished brother of Prof. Michael Okoth Wandayi (UoN), the late Dorcas Achieng’, Joyce Oduor, Rose Sadia, the late Turphena Awino, the late Jane Atieno, Josiah Odhiambo Wandayi (Nairobi Water Company), CS James Opiyo Wandayi (Ministry of Energy and Petroleum) and the late John Odongo Wandayi.
Family and friends are meeting daily from 5.00 pm for prayers and funeral arrangements at his home in Yiro-Muhola, Ugunja, Siaya County.
According to the funeral arrangement, the cortege will leave Aga Khan Hospital Funeral Home in Kisumu for short prayers at the All Saints Muhola ACK Church before proceeding to his home for an all-night vigil on Thursday, 16th July 2026.
Funeral service will take place on Friday, 17th July 2026, commencing at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Sikalame ACK Church ground. It will be followed by an interment at the family farm in a private ceremony.
