Nigeria’s president narrates rise to the top ‘I was a security guard’

President Bola Tinubu, on September 8, revealed that he was once a security guard before education transformed his life to become Nigeria’s President.

Tinubu made the revelations during his visit to India, as he was interacting with Nigerians living in India.

He also emphasized the need to have a positive attitude that has also propelled him through the ranks to become president.

The Nigerian head of state who is currently in India for the G-20 Summit, urged Nigerians to consider education as a priority, to transform their lives.

“Good education brought me here and I am happy to stand before you here as Nigeria’s President. I started small,” he said.

“I was a security guard, a tutor in school, and a brilliant student. When I joined Deloitte, I was trained by one of the biggest accounting firms in the world, because of my education,” he added.

After working with Deloitte for some years, he joined Exxon Mobil where he gained experience and became a successful accountant.

He later became auditor-general for the government of Nigeria before he moved to the treasury.

At the same time, Tinubu explained that a can-do attitude, plus a good education enabled him to rise through the ranks before he joined politics.

“You can also do it; do not be despondent in any way. Nigeria is ready to accommodate all. It does not matter which part of Nigeria you are from,” he encouraged him.

Nigeria’s culture

The head of state encouraged Nigerians in the diaspora to always adhere to the country’s unique culture, and traditions.

He added that Nigeria, one of the highly populated nations with approximately 200 million people was very dynamic and unique in its culture.

“We are here to present a new future to you. A future of a country that is so rich, endowed, and highly populated,” he noted.
