Nyoro says not all his budget proposals were adopted, apologizes over missing Finance Bill vote

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has called out Parliament’s Budget Committee, saying that not all the proposals he made during the public participation period on the Finance Bill were considered.

Nyoro, who has faced significant backlash from Kenyans over his vote on the bill, has issued an apology, acknowledging that his decision did not fully reflect his own stated position.

Speaking on the matter, Nyoro addressed the criticism head-on, noting that politicians questioning his stance are simply doing their job of keeping leaders accountable.

“I want to say this with a lot of humility. I was part of the team that campaigned around the country in the year 2022. And most of the times when I tried to give alternative views and to criticize, the message that always comes to me loudly is, but you are part of these people. It is you who came to convince us,” he said.

He admitted that this kind of feedback has made him more cautious and reflective in how he approaches political decisions going forward.

Nyoro also asked Kenyans to understand the broader context behind his thinking, framing the country’s direction as the single most important decision facing the nation.

“The single most important decision that we are going to make as a country is that decision about how do we want our country to proceed. And how we want our country to proceed is bound up together with who are these individuals who will come together and do this job,” he said.
