For millions of English Premier League (EPL) fans, the famous EPL trophy is in the country! The trophy arrived in Kenya on Friday, September 1.

President William Ruto on Saturday, September 2 evening welcomed the iconic trophy to State House, Nairobi, after a day of public viewing at Carnivore Grounds.

The trophy was escorted in the country by football legend, Nigerian Jay-Jay Okocha.

The EPL has hosted former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama, who played for Southampton and later Tottenham Hotspurs, and Divock Origi (formerly Liverpool), son of former Stars icon Mike Okoth Origi.

“The League is an inspiration to millions of young footballers across the world; Africa, Kenya included. It is the ultimate football destination,” President Ruto said as he welcomed the trophy.

He added: “The commercial potential of professional football is substantial enough to inspire many upcoming talents, change lives of thousands of players, coaches and communities. We must properly manage the game to develop and exploit this potential.”

Two behemoths of the English game – Manchester United and Arsenal – clash in Sunday’s Premier League blockbuster. The two teams boasts of massive support in the country.
