Police in Isiolo have arrested a suspect and recovered dozens of sachets of bhang during an operation targeting the illegal drug trade in the county.
The National Police Service (NPS), in a statement shared on its X account on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, said the arrest was made on Monday, September 7, during a targeted enforcement operation in Isiolo Township and the Bula Pesa area.
The operation formed part of ongoing multi-agency efforts aimed at disrupting the distribution of illegal drugs and illicit brews in different parts of the country.
According to the NPS, officers conducting the operation discovered 44 sachets containing suspected Cannabis sativa, commonly known as bhang. The substance had been wrapped in a transparent polythene bag.
Police also recovered a separate quantity of cannabis seeds, which had been concealed in a red polythene bag.
The suspect was subsequently taken to Isiolo Police Station, where he was booked into custody as officers prepared to process the case for court.
“The narcotics were secured as exhibits,” the NPS said.
The police service said the crackdown forms part of wider efforts by security agencies to address the distribution and use of illegal substances, particularly within local communities.
The NPS warned that enforcement operations would continue across the country as authorities intensify efforts to disrupt the illicit drug trade.
“The National Police Service remains fully vigilant, and nationwide crackdowns will continue in order to eliminate the scourge of illicit substances from our communities,” the statement said.
The suspect is expected to be arraigned in court as police proceed with the case.
Meanwhile, the NPS has appealed to members of the public to assist security agencies by reporting suspected criminal activities and the distribution of illegal substances.
