Police officers in Busia County have intercepted a consignment of contraband liquor and suspected narcotics during a routine security operation along the Busia–Kisumu Road.
The operation, conducted on May 3, 2026, involved a multi-agency team stationed at the Suo roadblock.
Officers stopped a Nairobi-bound public service vehicle for inspection, leading to the discovery of twenty-four packages of uncustomed Simba Gin, each containing twenty-four 200ml bottles.
Authorities also recovered five bales of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested and taken into custody, where he is awaiting processing and arraignment in court.
The vehicle was detained as investigations continue. Police are also pursuing another suspect who reportedly escaped during the operation.
Officials say investigations are ongoing as part of broader efforts to curb illicit trade and drug trafficking.
Members of the public have been encouraged to report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
