“I am a presidential candidate but we shall agree on who faces Ruto in 2027” –  Gachagua

DCP Party leader Rigathi Gachagua has affirmed that he is a presidential candidate under the United Alternative Government.

He has emphasized that his candidature should not cause any concern regarding the unity of the opposition.

Gachagua, the former Deputy President, has noted that although various candidates within opposition are vying for the presidency and trying to build their individual popularity, they will ultimately agree on one candidate to challenge  president William Ruto.

He has assured that he will not be a dividing factor in the opposition and pledged to support whichever candidate emerges victorious in the presidential nominations.

He also pointed out that, at present, each opposition candidate is seeking credibility and popularity in their bids.

Gachagua made these remarks on Sunday May 3, 2026 during a church service at PCEA Illasit Church in Kajiado South, Kajiado County.

In his address to the people of Kajiado South, the DCP Chief committed to completing all stalled projects, including the Illasit-Taveta road.

He accused President William Ruto of initiating the construction of the Taveta road for his own selfish interests.

On the Uhuru Kenyatta Onslaught:

Regarding the recent attacks on former President Uhuru Kenyatta by Kenya Kwanza leaders, Gachagua has urged them to leave the retired President alone, emphasizing that he deserves respect.

He reiterated that Uhuru Kenyatta has a constitutional right to freedom of expression and association, and praised his tenure, stating that he did a commendable job—something he claims the current leadership has failed to do.

Gachagua also criticized President Ruto for involving some ODM cabinet secretaries in the Central Management Committee, describing it as inappropriate for public officers to engage in partisan politics.

He warned that President Ruto is on the verge of weakening ODM, stressing that strong political parties are vital for democracy and should be protected.

Gachagua is on a three-day charm offensive in Kajiado County, aiming to garner support from the Maa community.
