Martin Kimani is a Kenya diplomat whose career has placed him in big rooms in regards to matters International conversations.

In December 2020, he was appointed as Kenya’s permanent representative to the United Nations in New York. This gave Kenya a platform to participate in matters global peace and security.

Kimani gained attention in February 2022 for his powerful speech at the United Nations Security Council. He did not deliver a diplomatic speech rather he drew comparison between Europe’s current geopolitical tensions and Africa ‘s colonial history.

He defended principles such as territorial integrity and international law. His remarks put Kenya as a strong voice for respecting national sovereignity and peaceful resolution of conflicts.

During his term, he represented Kenya in discussing subjects such as conflict resolution, peace keeping, terrorism, development and international cooperation.

He also served as President of the United Nations Security Council on October 2021. Kimani finished his term at the United Nations on May 13 2024.

On the 15th September 2026, United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres appointed Martin Kimani as the Secretary General for Africa in the Department of Political and Peace building Affairs and Peace operations, succeeding Ghana’s Martha Ama Akyaa Pobee .

This new role places him at the forefront of managing issues such as global conflict prevention, mediation and peace operations across the African continent.
