Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has urged ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna to step back and reflect on the political decisions he has been making, even as the Linda Mwananchi movement prepares to hold its long-awaited rallies in the Gusii region today.
In a social media post, Salasya said he had grown weary of the double standards he claimed had defined Sifuna’s conduct, tracing the pattern back to the period before the death of former ODM Party leader Raila Odinga and extending to the present day.
He accused Sifuna of helping draft Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) between ODM and UDA while publicly denying that the two parties have close political ties.
Salasya said he had been genuinely encouraged when Sifuna and his allies launched the Linda Mwananchi movement following the Kitengela rally, seeing it as a bold and clean break from what he called the broad-based sellout.
“I was genuinely impressed when you and the team birthed the Linda Mwananchi movement. I thought this was the moment you would walk away from ODM with your head high, building something real for the people. But you didn’t listen,” Salasya wrote.
The lawmaker said Sifuna was making a mistake by continuing to fight for the ODM Secretary General position despite the party’s National Executive Council having formally ratified his removal from the role.
“You don’t hold the systems of the party anymore. You should have walked away the very day they showed you the door,” he said, warning that Sifuna’s political shine was dimming fast as he chased a position he could no longer realistically hold.
He added that ODM was quietly celebrating his struggles and working to finish him off politically.
“ODM is dancing, celebrating your downfall behind closed doors. They want to finish you off completely. The earlier you had left, the better for your political career. My wish has always been you guys had just lowered your standards and massive egos from the start. Time to reflect before it is too late,” Salasya concluded.
The remarks come on the day the Linda Mwananchi movement, led by Sifuna alongside MP Babu Owino and Siaya Governor James Orengo, is set to hold rallies in Kisii and Nyamira counties.
The Gusii tour had originally been scheduled for Friday, June 26, but was pushed back to allow space for the June 25 anniversary protests held in memory of the Gen Z demonstrators who lost their lives during the 2024 demonstrations against the Finance Bill.
