Nyandarua Senator John Methu has been appointed as the Secretary-General designate of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
Making the announcement on Monday, May 25, DCP Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua said that the decision to appoint Methu had been made by the party’s National Executive Council (NEC), and that Methu’s name will be forwarded to the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties for confirmation.
“Methu will start acting today as Secretary General-designate and be the spokesperson of DCP on all matters starting today,” Gachagua said. “In the fullness of time, his name will be forwarded to the registrar of political parties so that he is registered as the duly appointed SG of DCP.”
Gachagua further confirmed that DCP lawyers are working to straighten any legal implications that may arise from Senator Methu’s appointment, given he was elected on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party.
“Having been elected to the Senate on a UDA ticket, our lawyers are looking at the legal implications, but Senator John Methu, for all practical purposes, is a member of DCP,” Gachagua stated.
Methu’s first assignment, as assigned by DCP NEC, will be to lead the Ol-Kalou By-election campaigns, and he is expected to work with Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia to make sure the party prevails in the mini-polls.
“I assure you that Wanjiku Muhia and I will deliver Ol Kalou for DCP Party…and not just a win, we want to win with a very big margin,” Methu said.
