Residents of Arunda Estate in Homa Bay Town have been left in shock after the body of a dead infant was discovered dumped at the Kaburini dumpsite.
The body was discovered by a businesswoman, Antonite Anyango, while opening her business premises early in the morning. She said she noticed a scavenging bird attempting to carry what appeared to be a toy-like object before moving closer and realizing it was the body of an infant.
According to Anyango, dogs and birds had already surrounded the body by the time she raised the alarm, attracting shocked residents to the scene.
She condemned the incident and urged young women to avoid getting pregnant if they are not ready to take up parental responsibility.
Other residents also criticized the act, terming it inhuman and worrying. Area village elder Daniel Ouma said they had been advised by the local chief to bury the body after nobody came forward to claim it.
