Police officers in Mtwapa, Kilifi County, have arrested a suspect linked to theft and recovered assorted items believed to have been stolen during an intelligence-led operation conducted within Mtwapa Township.
According to a statement issued by the National Police Service, officers from Mtwapa Police Station carried out the operation on Monday May 11, 2026 as part of ongoing efforts to combat rising criminal activities in the area.
The police said the operation led to the recovery of several household and electronic items suspected to have been stolen from members of the public.
Among the items recovered were gas cylinders, television sets, mobile phones, electronic equipment, assorted jewellery, SIM cards, household appliances, and other valuables.
In the statement, the police confirmed that the suspect is currently being held at Mtwapa Police Station pending arraignment in court.
“The suspect was escorted to Mtwapa Police Station, where he remains in custody pending arraignment in court,” the statement read.
Authorities further noted that all recovered items have been retained as exhibits to aid ongoing investigations and future court proceedings.
The National Police Service also praised residents for working closely with law enforcement agencies by providing information that helps in fighting crime.
“The National Police Service commends members of the public for their continued cooperation in the fight against crime,” the statement added.
