Former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday evening, May 11, 2026, attended a state dinner hosted by Yoweri Museveni ahead of his inauguration ceremony in Kampala.
According to a statement shared on Kenyatta’s official X account, the former Head of State attended a State Dinner hosted by President Museveni at the Speke Resort Convention Centre on the eve of the inauguration ceremony.
“Last evening, H.E. President (Rtd) Uhuru Kenyatta attended a State Dinner hosted by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at Speke Resort Convention Centre in honor of Heads of State, government representatives, leaders, and distinguished guests ahead of today’s Presidential Inauguration Ceremony in Kampala,” the statement read.
The inauguration follows Uganda’s General Elections held on January 15, 2026, where Museveni secured another term in office, extending his decades-long leadership of the East African nation.
Kenyatta, who served as Kenya’s fourth president, joined other regional leaders and dignitaries expected to witness the ceremony in Kampala on May 12, 2026.
The statement further noted that upon arrival in Uganda, Kenyatta was received by Ambassador Katureebe Tayebwa alongside Ambassador Kipkosgei Toroitich.
“H.E. President (Rtd) Uhuru Kenyatta, the 4th President of the Republic of Kenya, has arrived in Kampala to join fellow leaders, government officials, and dignitaries for the Presidential Inauguration Ceremony of H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni,” the post added.
The former president also briefly interacted with Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury John Mbadi at the airport as the CS prepared to travel back to Nairobi from Uganda.
The event has drawn high-profile leaders from across the region, highlighting Uganda’s continued diplomatic ties within the East African Community.
