Drama erupted on Monday, 11th May 2026, in Maina Village, on the outskirts of Nyahururu Town, after angry residents exhumed the body of a middle-aged man from Siberia Cemetery amid unresolved suspicions surrounding the deceased’s death and burial.

The man identified as Mr. David Mwangi, popularly known by his nickname ‘’Wetuu,’’ was reportedly last seen about a week ago having fun with his friends at a local pub in Maina Village.

From the information and accounts of his employer and friends, they were told by one family member that Mwangi might have fallen victim to mob justice in Maina Village after being accused of theft upon inquiry about his whereabouts.

‘’David alikuwa kijana mzuri, ingawaje alikuwa mlevi, hakuna siku aliwahi chokoza wala kuibia mtu, tulishangaa sana kuambiwa ati amepigwa na mob koz ya wizi, hiyo tumekataa,’’ one resident said

Nonetheless, locals adamantly refuted these claims, maintaining that such an incident can never happen in their area without any one of them noticing, insisting that Mwangi might have been killed somewhere else but buried there.

Things escalated further when locals discovered that the burial had been done at Siberia Cemetery late in the night, with only a few family members in attendance, and this raised eyebrows in the village, residents questioning the timing and secrecy, saying that it made it look like something was being covered up.

‘’Imagine walikam usiku wakamzika bila hata kutuambia sisi watu huwa tunafanya kazi na yeye, kwa nini waliamua kunyamaza, mbona wamzike usiku, mbona wasema alipigiwa Maina na hakuna mtu wa Maina aliona wala kusikia kitu kama hiyo?’’ another resident questioned.

Agitated by the move, angry residents exhumed the body. They were to take it to the police station, but the security officers from Nyahururu Police station came and calmed the situation.

The matter has now been handed over to the homicide detectives and DCI, who were at the scene, and a thorough investigation has been launched to unveil the truth and trace the family
