Tana River: Family of herder who was shot dead by KWS officer seeks justice

Tana River County leaders and the family of slain herder, who was shot by Kenya Wildlife Service Rangers in Kone village want action taken against the rogue KWS officers.

This was after a 50-year-old Isack Jarso Delo was reportedly gunned down by the KWS officers at his home in front of his family members.

The shooting incident took place at Kone Village about 167 kilometres from Garsen town near the border of Tana River and Kitui counties.

Led by Tana River County Assembly Speaker Osma Galole and Ex Tana River Governor Hussein Dado, the leaders wondered why it had taken too long for the DCI to complete investigations.

The Two Leaders spoke at the slain victim’s home in Kone Village on Tuesday February 4, 2025, where they had gone to console the family members.

The Speaker said two weeks ago they issued a one week ultimatum in a press conference held in Garsen attended by religious, opinion leaders and elders but no action has been taken.

He called on the DCI to ensure that the suspects are charged in court so that the family feels justice prevails.

“It’s now two weeks but we have not received any update from the DCI. Our brothers here have not received any information on when the suspects will be taken to court,” he said.

Galole said it’s time DCI came out in public to state what exactly was going on, regarding the case and promised to follow up the matter even if it means travelling to Nairobi to the DCI headquarters or the ODPP.

The former governor on his part said all the community wanted was for the suspects to be charged in court.

“We came to console the families and they have told us what they want to see is the suspects being taken to court,” said Dado.

The former governor appealed to the Government, particularly the Director of DCI to ensure the suspects are taken behind bars.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Dellow, a family member said all they wanted was justice for their brother who was killed in cold blood.

“I have said as a resident of Kone , Issa Jarso is a son of my brother we want justice for his blood,” he said.
