The fire incident at Utawala Academy that claimed lives of sixteen students has raised mixed reactions as a section of leaders demanded for the resignation of those inchage of safety and standards regulations regarding the construction of dormitories.
KUPPET National Chairperson Omboko Milemba says there is need to review the boarding schools’ regulations and do away with boarding facilities in all learning institutions in order to avert such calamities.
Speaking during a burial ceremony in Khwisero, Kakamega County, Milemba emphasised the need to ensure the safety of learners in all institutions.
Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula echored similar sentiments and demanded for the immediate resignation of those incharge of implementing safety regulations including the construction of dormitories.
COTU Secretary-General Francis Atwoli called out former President Uhuru Kenyatta over his remarks regarding the minimum wage indicating that the remarks amount to incitement to workers.
Atwoli says Uhuru failed to implement the minimum wage during his tenure in office adding that he cannot make the opposition asscend to power yet he failed to assist Raila Odinga asscend to power while in office.
