27,330 litres of illicit brews destroyed in Kawangware, Nairobi County

A multi-agency security operation in Kawangware, Nairobi Region, has destroyed 27,330 litres of suspected illicit brews as authorities intensify efforts to crack down on illegal alcohol trade.

The National Police Service (NPS) said the operation, conducted as part of ongoing enforcement efforts, also targeted businesses operating without the required licences.

Two individuals were arrested after they were found operating wine and spirit shops without the necessary permits. Police are also pursuing another suspect believed to be involved in the illicit brew trade.

According to the NPS, the suspect remains at large as officers continue to follow leads aimed at locating and apprehending him.

The operation comes amid increased efforts by multi-agency teams to disrupt the production, distribution and sale of illicit alcohol across the country.

The NPS said the latest crackdown was part of broader measures targeting illegal alcohol outlets and the networks supporting the illicit brew trade.

The police service urged members of the public to provide information that could help authorities identify and dismantle such operations.

โ€œThe National Police Service continues to call upon the public to provide timely information on illicit brews and any criminal activity to the nearest police station,โ€ the NPS said in a statement posted on its X account on Saturday, August 22.
