Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has changed course once again, declaring she will defend her seat in the 2027 General Election after previously announcing plans to run for the Makadara parliamentary seat.
Passaris made the announcement on Saturday, August 22, formally launching her third-term bid alongside a new campaign song.
“My name is Esther Muthoni Passaris, and in 353 days, I will be defending my seat as the Nairobi County Woman Representative in the 2027 General Election,” she said.
The declaration marks her second change of political direction in less than a year.
In November 2025, she publicly ruled out a third term, insisting the affirmative action seat deserved fresh female leadership.
“By 2027, God willing, I will have completed two full terms as Nairobi Woman Rep. This is an affirmative action seat, and I believe it is time for another woman to lead,” she had said.
She then shifted course in February 2026, announcing a bid for the Makadara MP seat after incumbent George Aladwa signalled he would be running for Nairobi Governor, creating a vacancy she felt was worth pursuing.
Now she has completely changes her decision, returning to the seat she has held since 2017.
If she wins, she would become the second Woman Representative in Kenyan history to serve three consecutive terms, joining Siaya’s Dr Christine Ombaka, who has held the seat since its creation in 2013.
The contest for the Nairobi Woman Rep seat is already shaping up to be one of the most competitive in the country.
Passaris will go up against UDA’s Nominated Senators Karen Nyamu and Tabitha Mutinda, DCP aspirant Millicent Omanga, and potentially ODM Nominated Senator Crystal Asige, who has been linked to the race but is yet to formally declare.
