56 arrested as police probe violent disruptions at Nakuru event attended by Governor Kihika

The National Police Service (NPS) has launched investigations into violent disturbances that disrupted a public event in Kuresoi North Sub-County, Nakuru County, on June 19, 2026.

According to a statement shared by the NPS on its official X account on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at least 56 suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the incident.

The event had been attended by Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, senior government officials, county leaders and members of the public before chaos erupted.

“56 suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident. All remain in custody as investigations continue,” the police said.

Authorities disclosed that several items believed to have been used during the disturbances were recovered from the suspects. The exhibits have since been secured as part of the ongoing investigations.

While the police did not immediately provide details on the cause of the violence, investigators are now piecing together evidence to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.

The latest development comes amid growing concern over disruptions witnessed during public gatherings in different parts of the country.

The National Police Service said it remains committed to ensuring that those behind the unrest are brought to book.

“The National Police Service reaffirms its commitment to conducting thorough investigations, meticulously examining all evidence, and holding those responsible accountable in accordance with the law,” the statement read.

Police have maintained that all suspects will remain in custody as investigations progress, with possible charges expected once inquiries are completed.

The incident occurred during a public function attended by Governor Susan Kihika and other leaders in Kuresoi North, Nakuru County, attracting significant public attention.

The NPS has urged members of the public to remain peaceful and allow investigators to carry out their work as efforts continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the disruptions.
