Tension gripped Homa Bay Town on Tuesday afternoon after a group of youths staged protests demanding the release of their leader and five others who had been arrested over an alleged assault on members of the Linda Mwananchi county team and human rights activist Evance Oloo Gor.
The protests disrupted business activities, forcing several traders to close their premises as demonstrators moved through parts of the town. The unrest prompted a heavy police deployment to contain the situation and restore order.
Homa Bay County Police Commander Lawrence Koilem confirmed the arrest of the six suspects, saying they are being held in connection with the alleged assault. He added that security officers had been dispatched across the town to restore normalcy and maintain law and order.
Police urged members of the public to remain calm as investigations into the incident continue.
