The family of 10-year-old Risper Auma Otieno, a Grade 4 pupil nursing severe injuries at Homa Bay County Referral Hospital, is accusing authorities of dragging their feet in delivering justice after an alleged assault by a male classmate.
Risper sustained a broken waist and fractured arm following a violent attack within the school premises, reportedly after she wrote the boy’s name on a list of noisemakers. The boy, who had faced punishment from a teacher, allegedly retaliated by attacking Risper, leaving her hospitalised.
Her mother, Pamela Otieno from Olambwe, says she reported the incident immediately but claims no action has been taken against the boy or the school staff responsible for pupil supervision. The school administration has yet to release an official statement, and efforts to reach education officers in Suba North Sub-County have been unsuccessful.
The family is calling for urgent intervention from education and security authorities to ensure accountability and prevent future incidents. Local community members have also expressed outrage, demanding safer learning environments for children.
Homa Bay Children Services Officer Patrick Awino assured the public that his department is working tirelessly to safeguard children’s welfare, expressing hope that other agencies, including the police and school officials, are actively addressing the situation.
The family has appealed to well-wishers, child protection agencies, and government bodies to help secure justice for Risper and ensure the safety of all pupils.
