Siaya Central Primary and Junior School has officially launched a state-of-the-art science laboratory, marking a major milestone as the first comprehensive school facility of its kind in Siaya County.
The lab was officially commissioned during the institution’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The modern facility, designed to enhance practical delivery of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), was constructed over two financial years. It was fully funded through the Ministry of Education’s Infrastructure Support Funds and government capitation allocations.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the Senior Head of Institution, Mr. Vincent Kowino, expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Education, the County Education Office, and the school’s Board of Management (BOM) for ensuring the project’s successful completion and prudent fund utilization.
”We understood early enough that to strengthen learning in the STEM pathway, we needed a practical approach to delivery and learning interaction,” Kowino said. “With the modern lab we have constructed, alongside donations of equipment from our BOM Chairman and well-wishers, this facility will go a long way in empowering our learners.”
Siaya Sub-County Education Director James Onyango encouraged students to capitalize on the new infrastructure to boost their academic scores and build practical capabilities in science and technology.
Alongside the facility launch, education officials addressed parents and stakeholders on critical policy transitions within the ministry.
Onyango announced that the government is completing the transition from the National Education Management Information System (NEMIS) to the Kenya Education Management Information System (KEMIS) platform.
The new data system aims to capture accurate, evidence-based learner data to streamline future capitation disbursements and ensure seamless infrastructure planning across primary and junior secondary schools. Institutional heads were urged to onboard all students onto the KEMIS platform promptly to prevent disbursement delays in the upcoming academic cycles.
School Board Vice- Chairman, Peter Owiti praised the transparent management of public funds and strong collaboration among parents, teachers, and administrators, appealing to the national government for continued infrastructure support to match the school’s expanding enrolment.
