Over 3.6 million learners sit for national assessments and examinations in Kenya

More than 3.6 million learners and candidates are registered for this year’s national assessments and examinations, as the 2026 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) begin today.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba announced that a total of 3,634,846 learners will sit the assessments and examinations, including 1,380,463 KPSEA candidates, 1,206,028 KJSEA learners and 1,048,355 KCSE candidates.

The KPSEA and KJSEA assessments commenced on the morning of Monday 26, 2026, with the KCSE examinations having started on October 19th.

Speaking at the Makindu Sub County Commissioner’s Office in Makueni County, Ogamba said the government had put in place measures to ensure the examinations are conducted smoothly, securely and fairly.

The measures include smart electronic padlocks on examination storage containers, expanded distribution networks and enhanced monitoring of examination materials.

KPSEA will run for three days until October 28th, while KJSEA concludes on October 30th. The main KCSE written examinations are scheduled to run from November 2nd to 20th.

The Education CS warned that examination malpractice will not be tolerated, cautioning candidates and parents against fraudsters demanding money in exchange for alleged access to examination papers.

The government has also put in place contingency measures to address challenges arising from heavy rains, flooding and difficult terrain, while ensuring learners with disabilities receive appropriate support.

Ogamba urged candidates to remain confident and disciplined, assuring Kenyans that the government is committed to protecting the integrity of the national assessments and examinations.
