The growing political influence of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, the rise of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), and shifting political alliances ahead of the 2027 General Election dominated discussions during TV47 Breakfast, hosted by Fred Indimuli on Thursday, July 30, 2026.
Lang’ata MP aspirant Hajji Omar argued that Sifuna has emerged as one of the country’s most influential opposition figures, saying his popularity continues to grow across the country.
“Sifuna is a powerhouse. He was well received by large crowds, enjoyed massive support, and is loved by many. The ‘Sisi Ndio Sifuna’ movement is gaining traction everywhere and carrying the spirit of ODM. He is shaking things up and has become a force to be reckoned with,” Omar said.

“Gachagua is doing a great job mobilizing people to join DCP in the Mt. Kenya region. UDA appears to be losing ground while DCP is gaining significant momentum,” he stated.

Omar also accused the ruling party of deepening political divisions, saying, “UDA is creating division while the Opposition promotes unity.”
Othaya Constituency MP aspirant Antony Gitonga echoed Omar’s sentiments, describing Sifuna as an emerging political force capable of reshaping Kenya’s opposition politics.
“Sifuna is a breath of fresh air and a growing threat to many politicians. The Sifuna wave is set to ruffle many feathers because it caught many by surprise. Linda Mwananchi is an idea you can’t wish away,” Gitonga remarked.

He further claimed that the opposition has become more cohesive and questioned Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s influence in the Mt. Kenya region.
“The United Alternative Opposition is united and stronger than ever. Kindiki can’t match or command Gachagua’s Mt. Kenya numbers. The mountain is gone,” he said.

Gitonga also predicted a difficult period ahead for the ruling party.
“The party of the moment is DCP, and it has even managed to challenge UDA. The 2027 election will be interesting because, for the first time, it may not be leaders telling the people what to do, but the people telling leaders what they want.”

Offering a contrasting perspective, Joshua Nyamori, an Advocate of the High Court, cautioned against drawing premature political conclusions from current developments.
“The Sifuna wave is confusing visibility with inevitability. It is too early to say that Sifuna will be a determining factor in the next election,” Nyamori said.
He also dismissed speculation that Deputy President Kindiki could be replaced before the 2027 elections.
“Saying DP Kindiki is underperforming and will be replaced is media creation. There has been no official communication from either ODM or the Broad-Based Government confirming that Kindiki will be Ruto’s running mate.”

Nyamori further argued that President William Ruto does not require overwhelming support from the Mt. Kenya region to secure re-election.
