Carrefour Kenya, KCB Bank and Mastercard launch Prepaid Card for smarter grocery budgeting

Carrefour Kenya, KCB Bank Kenya, and Mastercard have joined forces to launch the Carrefour Prepaid Card, a payment solution designed to help customers plan, manage, and control their grocery spending more effectively.

The card, launched on Thursday, July 30, 2026, allows customers to set a dedicated grocery budget, track their sperrefunding, and ensure funds meant for household essentials are used as intended, while also accessing exclusive Carrefour discounts and rewards.

Christophe Orcet, Regional Director for East Africa at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, said the card is about giving customers practical tools for everyday shopping.

“Helping our customers shop smarter means giving them simple, predictable tools for everyday essentials. The Carrefour Prepaid card allows customers to plan grocery spending, stay in control and manage household budgets with confidence, while retaining the ease of card payments,” he said.

The prepaid solution is particularly tailored for customers supporting households remotely, managing shared budgets, or looking for a simpler alternative to cash and multiple payment methods.

The card is reloadable via Mastercard Gateway using any bank card from any country, making it convenient for customers sending funds to family members in Kenya from abroad.

Jane Isiaho, Director of Retail Banking at KCB Bank Kenya, said the collaboration reflects the bank’s drive toward innovative, customer-focused solutions.

“Through this collaboration with Mastercard, we are offering a payment solution that reduces reliance on cash. The card is easy to use, supported by 24/7 customer service, and available across all Carrefour stores, while offering features that enable better planning and day-to-day spending management,” she said.
