Azimio MPs to President Ruto: You have until Tuesday to sack CS Linturi

Azimio MPs have threatened to impeach Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi over fake fertilizer.

The MPs, led by the Bumula MP Jack Wamboka, Antony Kibagendi (Kitutu Chache), Catherine Omanyo (Busia woman rep), Caleb Amisi (Saboti), Mark Mwenje (Embakasi), and Gathoni wa Muchomba (Githunguri) have given President Ruto until Tuesday April 16 to remove Linturi from office. If he does not, they will file an impeachment motion.

While speaking during a widows’ empowerment program in Khasoko village, Bumula Constituency, on April 14, 024, the MPs accused President Ruto of being complicit in the fake fertilizer scandal. They alleged that he has remained silent as farmers suffer.

Wamboka urged President Ruto to take action, sack Linturi, and address the confusion in the Ministry of Agriculture.

Omanyo claimed that the President was aware of the fake fertilizer being supplied to farmers.

According to Mwanje, the President should stop protecting Linturi, adding that during the Jubilee Government’s tenure, when Ruto served as deputy president, two cabinet secretaries were dismissed for failing in their duties.

“Roads cabinet secretary Michael Kamau and his agriculture counterpart Felix Kosgey were sacked by then President Uhuru Kenyatta. How special is Linturi?” posed Mwenje.

Wamboka said that he and the other MPs have finalized preparations to file an impeachment motion if Linturi is not removed from office.

They also criticized the government for failing to address other pressing issues, such as the Linda Mama programme and the welfare of pregnant mothers.

The MPs demanded the reinstatement of the Linda Mama programme and criticized the government for the delay in its return.
