Betty Maina leads Kenyatrack ranking of Kenya’s top-performing Women Representatives in 2026

Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina has emerged as Kenya’s best-performing Woman Representative in the latest Kenyatrack Survey, which assessed public perception, grassroots engagement, leadership effectiveness, and development performance among elected women leaders across the country.

The nationwide survey, conducted between May 15 and June 15, 2026, interviewed 7,340 respondents drawn from all counties and sought to evaluate the performance of Women Representatives based on development initiatives, parliamentary participation, management of the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF), accessibility, and responsiveness to community needs.

According to the findings, Betty Maina of Murang’a County topped the rankings with an impressive 87 percent approval rating. The survey attributed her strong performance to community-based economic empowerment programmes targeting women, youth, and vulnerable groups, as well as her support for education through bursaries and other initiatives. Respondents also cited her prudent management of NGAAF resources and strong grassroots visibility as key factors behind her popularity.

Coming in second was Pamela Njoki Njeru of Embu County, who scored 85 percent. The survey highlighted her efforts in women and youth empowerment, educational support programmes, and direct engagement with local communities. Her close interaction with grassroots organizations and focus on improving social welfare earned her widespread public approval.

In third place was Elizabeth Karambu Kailemia of Meru County with 82 percent. She was recognized for combining effective parliamentary representation with visible community engagement.

Her leadership in youth and women empowerment programmes, educational support initiatives, and active legislative participation contributed significantly to her high rating.

Zamzam Mohamed of Mombasa County secured fourth position after attaining an 80 percent approval rating. Survey respondents praised her accessibility, regular interaction with residents, and support for women, youth, and vulnerable households. Her emphasis on accountability and issue-based leadership was also cited as a major strength.

Rounding out the top five was Liza Chelule of Nakuru County, who scored 78 percent. The survey noted her extensive empowerment programmes for women and youth, support for education through bursaries and scholarships, and advocacy against gender-based violence and early pregnancies. Her grassroots development initiatives have earned her recognition nationally.

Leah Sopiato Sankaire of Kajiado County was ranked sixth with 77 percent. Respondents credited her visible grassroots presence, commitment to education programmes, and efforts to improve opportunities for marginalized communities. Her development-focused leadership style has steadily enhanced her public standing.

In seventh place was Rahab Mukami of Nyeri County, who garnered 75 percent approval. Through her “Mukami Maendeleo Mashinani” initiative, she has spearheaded programmes focused on education, sanitation, housing, economic empowerment, and social welfare. Her active role in both local and continental leadership platforms has further strengthened her profile.

Beatrice Kemei of Kericho County ranked eighth nationally with 72 percent. She received recognition for effective utilization of NGAAF resources and the implementation of empowerment programmes aimed at improving livelihoods for women, youth, and vulnerable populations across the county.

In ninth position was Njeri Maina of Kirinyaga County, who attained 70 percent. The survey highlighted her strong parliamentary performance, committee work, legislative participation, and sustained community outreach efforts. Her accessibility and visibility among constituents were identified as major contributors to her favorable rating.

Completing the top ten was Elsie Muhanda of Kakamega County, who scored 69 percent. She was recognized for championing programmes supporting women, youth, education, and vulnerable households through NGAAF and other community-based initiatives. Her consistent engagement with residents and emphasis on inclusive development have continued to earn public confidence.

The findings projected that Women Representatives who combine effective legislative leadership with sustained grassroots engagement, prudent management of public resources, and practical development programmes enjoy the highest levels of public trust. Education support, economic empowerment initiatives, healthcare interventions, and continuous interaction with constituents emerged as the strongest indicators influencing positive public perception.

As public expectations continue to evolve, the report notes that leaders who demonstrate accountability, accessibility, transparency, and measurable development outcomes are more likely to strengthen public confidence and leave a lasting impact in their respective counties.
