Cardiologist Daniel Kibuka Gikonyo has appeared before the court for cross-examination after filing an affidavit in support of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in an ongoing court battle where Gachagua argues that he was denied a fair hearing.
While testifying before the court, Dr. Gikonyo defended his medical assessment of the former Deputy President, stating that based on his professional expertise, the symptoms Gachagua presented with pointed to a possible heart attack.
He explained that upon receiving Gachagua for treatment, doctors followed standard medical protocols due to complaints of chest pains and other symptoms associated with cardiac distress.
The cardiologist told the court that stress was among the factors considered during the examination, noting that Gachagua’s condition required immediate admission for close monitoring and further medical tests to determine the extent of the chest pains and rule out serious heart complications.
Gachagua moved to court challenging the process that led to his impeachment, insisting that he was never accorded a fair hearing.
In his filings, the former Deputy President argues that the proceedings continued despite his medical condition, denying him an opportunity to adequately defend himself.
