CEO’s mystery murder: One year later, Dr. Susan Kamengere’s family still waiting for justice

A year after the death of Toto Touch Founder and CEO Susan Kamengere Njoki shocked the country, her family says the pain has not eased. Instead, it has been prolonged by what they describe as slow investigations and the lack of answers over who was responsible for her death.

Susan died on July 15, 2025, less than 24 hours after she was reportedly forcefully taken from her home in Kileleshwa, injected with medication she said she was allergic to, and admitted to a psychiatric hospital in Nairobi.

Days later, a post-mortem conducted by a team of six pathologists concluded that the 39-year-old entrepreneur died from manual strangulation. The doctors found injuries on her neck that cut off the supply of oxygen to her body.

“All these features are in line with death as a result of manual strangulation, which we are all in consensus,” pathologist Dr. Joseph Ndungu said while releasing the autopsy findings.

Despite the findings, the family says one year later, no one has been arrested or charged over Susan’s death.

Speaking during a memorial service to mark the first anniversary of her passing, her elder brother, Ephantus Kamengere, questioned why the case appears to have gone silent despite medical evidence pointing to homicide.

“It has been one year since the post-mortem confirmed that our sister was strangled. Yet to date, no one has been held accountable. We are asking the agencies investigating this matter to move with speed because every delay continues to reopen our wounds,” he said.

Kamengere appealed to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and other relevant state agencies to conclude the investigations and ensure justice is served.

The family has maintained that Susan was in good spirits before the incident and was preparing for an international job interview. They continue to question the circumstances under which she was allegedly removed from her home and admitted to a psychiatric facility.

Her death sparked national debate after a voice note believed to have been recorded shortly before she died emerged online. In it, Susan claimed she had been forcibly injected despite warning that she was allergic to the medication.

Police opened investigations into the case and questioned several people, including her husband, medical personnel involved in her admission and officials from the hospital where she was taken. However, twelve months later, the family says it is yet to receive the answers it has been seeking.

Susan’s sister, Priscilla Wanjiru Muchoki, said the family has exhausted every avenue in its search for justice and is now placing its hope in God.

“This has been the longest and most painful year of our lives. We have cried, prayed and waited for answers that have never come. Today, we are asking God to reveal the truth because He alone knows what happened to Susan. We trust that one day, the truth will come to light,” she said.

As the family marked one year since Susan’s death, their message was simple: they have not given up on justice. They are calling on the authorities to complete the investigations and finally provide the answers they have waited for over the past year.
