DCI grills 4 county askaris over funeral chaos; Governor Natembeya, Speaker Wetangula supporters clashed

Four officers attached to the Office of Trans Nzoia County Governor George Natembeya have been summoned by DCI over the Sunday, March 24 chaos at a funeral.

The county commissioner, Steve Oloo, says that also summoned is a supporter of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, in connection to the chaos witnessed during the burial of the wife of former Nominated MCA Philip Nyongesa in Gozeta, Kwanza Constituency.

The five individuals were on Tuesday, March 26 grilled by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers.

“They have been summoned to record statements and we want the police to be fair in their investigations,” Oloo said.

Meanwhile, the wrangles and supremacy battles between Governor Natembeya and Speaker Wetangula have taken a twist after UDA Party leader in North Rift region accused the former of disrespecting Wetangula.

The duo has been at loggerheads for the better part of the year, with each accusing the other of offending the other, in what is coming out as a Western Kenya supremacy battle and succession row.

Kapenguria MP Samuel Moroto wants Natembeya to stop abusing and attacking the speaker. “Respect is paramount. In West Pokot we have a Governor, MCAs and MPs but we don’t querrel.”

“When Wetangula was a mere MP he united the Pokot and Turkana communities and we sat together. He stopped the Trans-Nzoia –Pokot, Sebei conflicts. Without him we couldn’t be where we are now,” Moroto added.

The legislator further accused Natembeya of being an inciter and tribal.

“He has only been fronting Luhyas and spreading propaganda. Saying that Wetangula has done nothing in Western Kenya is wrong and pure malice.”
